Platinum Again: ASSCAT Recognized for Innovation

The Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) once again earned the Platinum Award from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) during the ITSO Presidents’ Summit and General Assembly held on April 10, 2025, at Sequoia Hotel, Manila Bay.

The Platinum Award recognizes ITSO-member institutions that have achieved significant milestones in areas such as conducting foundational Intellectual Property (IP) education, comprehensive patent searches, filing at least seven invention patents, and successfully commercializing intellectual properties that make a meaningful difference to society.

This marks the second straight year that ASSCAT has received the award, a recognition of the college’s growing efforts to build a stronger culture of innovation and meaningful use of intellectual property.

Behind this milestone is the continued work of the RIDE – Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), in partnership with faculty, researchers, and community partners. From education and training on intellectual property to filing patents and bringing research closer to real-world use, ASSCAT’s work reflects its role in advancing relevant goals such as quality education (SDG 4), innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), and stronger partnerships (SDG 17).

This progress is made possible through the steady leadership of College President Dr. Joy C. Capistrano and the continuing efforts of innovation champions across the years—Dr. Ferdinand A. Dumalagan, Dr. Fernando L. Marzo Jr., Engr. Jack O. Bertulfo, Engr. Cyrus Galendez, and Ms. Jacky Lyn Maestrado—working together to turn ideas into action.

At its core, this recognition belongs to the wider ASSCAT community—proof that when people work together with purpose, lasting progress follows.
