New Greenhouse Facility Powers ASSCAT’s Push for Sustainable Agriculture

Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT) formally received its new Automated Hydroponic Greenhouse from the Department of Agriculture (DA) today, April 22, 2025.
The ceremony, held at the greenhouse site, featured a ribbon cutting and the symbolic handover of the project certificate and key by DA officials Ms. Gemma A. Asufre and Ms. Melody M. Guimary to ASSCAT representatives.
Present during the turnover were VP for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance Dr. Carmelo S. Llanto, VP for Administration, Finance and Planning Janice S. Dini-ay, Research and Creative Works Director Engr. Michael M. Sabugaa, and Project Leader Dr. Raymond F. Gabica. The team expressed optimism about the project’s impact on research, instruction, and local food production.
Designed to promote sustainable and tech-driven farming, the facility supports ASSCAT’s efforts to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Zero Hunger (SDG 2) through food innovation, Quality Education (SDG 4) via experiential learning, and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9) through agri-tech research.
